ServersCheck MIB Browser (Freeware)

Since it was developed in 1988, the Simple Network Managment Protocol has become the de facto standard for internetwork managment. Because it is a simple solution, requiring little code to implement, vendors can easily build SNMP agents to their products. Vendors can easily add network managment functions to their existing products. SNMP also separates the managment architecture from the architecture of the hardware devices, which broadens the base of multivendor support.

The SNMP protocol is extensible by design. This is achieved through the notion of a management information base or MIB, which specifies the management data of a specific subsystem of an SNMP-enabled device, using a hierarchical namespace containing object identifiers, so called OID's. The MIB hierarchy can be depicted as a tree with a nameless root, the levels of which are assigned by different organizations.

The free ServersCheck MIB Browser enables you to query any SNMP enabled device by using the SNMPv1, SNMPv2 and even the secure SNMPv3 protocol. As a JAVA based application it can run on any system having the Java Run Time installed. It can perform GET, GETNEXT, WALK and SET SNMP commands.

This application ships with the standard IANA mibs, the RFC mibs and the mibs from ServersCheck Additional mibs can be found on various online resources.

The Java based the MIB Browser requires the free Java Run Time (JRE) that you can download from following url: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp
